with all the great wrestlers in the WPIAL this year, sophomore Spencer Lee took the award as the Tribune-Review's wrestler of the year. The linked article contains some interesting info about the weight Lee wrestled this year, as well as some somewhat surprising (to me) answers to a number of questions posed to him by the newspaper. You can read the article at this link.

Chalk this up as another article that I missed while I was on vacation.

Also note the first 2 paragraphs:

Franklin Regional wrestler Spencer Lee
did something this year that many in his shoes might not have - wrestled
at a higher weight so his teammate could compete and win another PIAA
title.

Lee admitted he should have wrestled at
113 pounds this season, but he wrestled up so Devin Brown could be at a
comfortable weight class.

Yeah, that did catch my eye ...

kind of what we speculated, but the 1st time I've seen Spencer confirm it.

with the standard caveat that projecting college weights is far from exact, with Spencer a 113 who was wrestling up this year, it does increase the likelihood that he'll be 125 in college, at least to start.

What's mind-boggling is that...

he wrestled up, which by all accounts makes the path to a state title more difficult and still mowed down the field. He is a special talent.

And catch the rest of their all-star team.....14 state champs

what a year for Western PA in wrestling....I can't remember a region being more dominant in PA wrestling in a long time.
