Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic 2024

Way too early look at Team PA, subject to weight changes and the like:
114 - Ayden Smith, NDGP (S4-S3-S1). Note, Davis Motyka (Wyoming Seminary) beat Smith 3-1 SV at Ironman. But I doubt PWC will turn away a 2x state champ over such a close match.
121 - Louie Gill, Reynolds (S1-S2). Alternate: Tyler Kapusta, Franklin Regional (S4-S7). Neither has much chance of winning this year. Gill gets the edge as a former champ.
127 - Luke Lilledahl, Wyoming Seminary (S1 Missouri - NP3 - NP1).
133 - Mason Gibson, Bishop McCort (S2) or Gavin Sheridan, Boyertown (S7). Either or neither could win states this year. Gibson is better but Sheridan may have a higher chance of reaching the finals due to a weaker bracket.
Here it gets fuzzy for a few weights. Returning state champ Luke Simcox (Central Mountain) just returned from injury and could hypothetically go 139, 145, or 152 this postseason. Guessing he'll most likely go 145, but that's a guess right now.
139 - Cooper Hornack, Burrell (S1) or Seamus Mack, Hempfield (S8-S6-S3) or Brock Weiss, Jersey Shore (S2). This weight is a total mess for PWC. Hornack will lose to Bo Bassett at regionals and likely again in the state finals. AAA includes Tahir Parkins and Dalton Perry (both ineligble for PWC).
Simcox makes sense for PWC if there is sufficient weight allowance.
145 - Pierson Manville, State College (S1-S2) or Luke Simcox, Central Mountain (S6-S5-S1). Assuming Simcox is at 145, they'll meet at regionals and in the state finals.
152 - Maybe Simcox or Manville here? No senior will place top 3 in AAA due to Rath, Gaj, Sipes; or in AA due to Miller, Milheim, Stein, Wentzel.
160 - Conner Harer, Montgomery (S5-S1-S1).
172 - Joe Sealey, Wyoming Seminary (S1 North Carolina - NP1 - NP1). AAA favorite Shawn Taylor (S4-S2) is not in Sealey's class ... but he is from WPIAL.
189 - Tucker Hogan, Daniel Boone (S3-S1). If Boone slips up, Garrett Garcia (Southern Columbia) is the AA favorite.
215 - Rune Lawrence, Frazier (S1-S1-S1).
285 - Sean Kinney, Nazareth (S2-S1-S1).

any info on what is up with that? It doesn't appear to be a major injury from what I have seen
I will just give alternatives if they can't get the SEM guys or choose not to get them, and other backup options for some weights
114- Kaedyn Williams is a senior who will likely place top 4 for the 4th time in career
121- Mason Ziegler might come back down to 121 and would have a real shot at the title
127-Binni or Ziegler should be the guys if they can't get LL
139- Simcox has been at 139 this year (and honestly looks better than Perry) so I could see him going 139 for postseason and Perry dropping to 133 or going up to 145.
152- Highest placing Senior in AAA? There will be seniors on the podium but I am not sure how they will do this. Best lineup for PA is likely bumping a 145.
160- If they can't get Harer, whoever places highest between Kuntesk, Myers and Garvick
172- If they can't get Sealy and Taylor is out, Sadridinov should be the guy unless he gets upset by another senior
189- AAA champ, I expect the finals to be a rematch between Hogan and Bartram (both seniors)
215-If Rune isn't available Bechtold should be the guy
285- If Kinney doesn't want to go, whoever takes 2nd in AAA (assuming it is a senior and Kinney doesn't get upset)

The weight allowance must be ridiculous as a state champ and state finalist from AAA are competing at the weight class below the one they competed in at states

Simcox competed at 139 earlier in the year, before his injury.
But this does apply to Garvick.
Yea Simcox can definitely make 139 but I seriously doubt he was weighing anywhere below 147 on day 3 of PIAA States where guys could weigh up to 149. Just surprised to see guys go “down” so soon after states when most wrestlers are about 10 pounds heavier Monday morning than they were on Saturday.

I don't remember what the allowance is, but there's a banquet the night before and the wrestlers don't get served one celery stalk each.
I don’t mind that at all considering neither are really from PA (Lilledahl MO and Sealy NC)

Carter Starocci and Abe Assad(Iowa) got in a crazy scramble in 2019
Weigh ins are at check in on Friday. It’s either 5 or 10 pounds if I remember correctly.
David Taylor did mention in his latest podcast that one of his M2 wrestlers who was scheduled to wrestle at the event got injured and wouldn't be able to compete. I am not sure who the wrestler is.

Wrecked a dirt bike and smashed his back against a tree. Hoping he is alright
PA AA HWT champ headed to Virginia, in the undercard.
Mason Gibson looking like the Matrix there. Really nice win for him!
That was awesome. Kid looked good. Super athletic. His opponent wasn’t great but really good performance from Morgan
Pretty good match overall. The turning point was Consiglio getting decked against Braun and Garvin getting beat handily by Estrada. Both PA guys were higher ranked. The Consiglio match was a 9 point swing minimum.
Good win from Gibson. Meza was ranked 7th I think and Gibson was 20th. Meza beat Lilledahl in freestyle last year as well. Really really weird match where Luke didn’t look right but Meza did win. He lost to Luke a few weeks later but it just shows the level of guy Meza is. Gibson almost gave it away going flying squirrel but then hit a nice duck/peak out for the winning td
Gibson earned PA OW.
