…links cancellation of Collegian funding to…you guessed it…football program and Sandusky!

Who will respond?!

There was an article in the Tribune-Review last week about the poor financial condition of PSU. Based on this article, this university is going to have to do a lot more cost-cutting in addition to The Daily Collegian, which actually may be a good thing because then maybe it will be forced into reverting back to what it used to be rather than what it has become and is becoming.

I saw something yesterday that West Virginia is getting rid of some thing like 10 different majors and another 20 masters programs including an entire foreign language department. I don’t think Penn State should go that far but they definitely should do something similar.

PSU operates like the government - we can just keep passing along all our costs and people have to pay it - wrong! prospective students have choices and you have to be insane to pay out of state tuition for PSU when an in state school will will be just as good if not better in most cases.

The Collegian was Pravda when I was still at PSU in the 80s. It's gone further left since then. If anything it's surprising Penn State is squashing it.

All the alumni mags and (from my experience in College of Ag) the college publications are so far off the left shelf it's not even funny. I'm glad they're going away, but they'll probably blame non-socialists for the failure. Why not just jack up tuition another $5 grand a semester? That seems to be working.

Maybe the Athletic Department will have to shrink to only having 100 Assistant ADs

I don't know if it is the case with this particular editorial, but people believe that donors who give to athletics will gladly shift their donations to academic purposes if athletics wasn't there and just isn't true. People will always give to what motivates them. Penn State doesn't get Pegula's $100M if they don't start a hockey program. It was what he wanted.
