Football Drew Allar discusses 2023, looking ahead to 2024 with Hackenberg, McSorley

Pretty good troika. Hack speaks well - nice tempo, concise.
Trace still needs to slow down/relax a bit more when asking questions.

DA definitely opening up more.

I’m a big Drew Allar fan. Anyone who has played competitive sports can see he is supremely talented. And he seems like a good kid on top of that. Like most of Joe’s recruits when I was in school. They were great players and great guys.

Vegas seems to think DA is a Top Four QB draft pick in 2025. That says a lot. So just maybe this could be the year we were all hoping for.

A really good point is that the iPad and coach communications may help the transition to a new offense and OC.

Of the six QBs selected in the recent NFL Draft Round 1, were any early eligible for the draft, "3 and out"?

We'll see how this year goes for Drew, but don't see him as being NFL ready after 3 seasons

Vegas oddsmakers are optimistic....

Good question.

  1. USC's Williams, age 22, was a transfer from OU and started 3 full seasons
  2. LSU's Jayden Danials, age 23, also transferred (ASU) and played 5 seasons
  3. Drake Maye, age 21, played 2.5 years.
  4. JJ McCarthy, age 21, stayed three years and started two years.
  5. Penix, age 23, transfer from Indy, played six years
  6. Bo Nix, age 24, transfer from Auburn, played for five years
So, some thoughts:
  • of the six, four were transfers
  • of the six, only two are 21 years old.
  • Allar is 20 and will be 20 when he plays this fall as his birthday isn't until March (he just turned 20). If he was in the draft next year, he'll be younger at draft time than all of the six above.
  • All started for at least two years and had ample playing time in 3+ years
  • Daniels, Penix and Nix would not have gone in the first round had they not started in college ball for more than 2 year. In other words, them staying an extra year or two translated into a round one draft.

I agree, it seems the more college snaps, the better success in the NFL.

JJ McCarthy- being the youngest could indicate that he has yet to peak, and has the most potential to continue to develop.

Will be interesting to see how he comes along in the pros.

Agreed and he really wasn't asked to do much other than to manage a really talented offensive team. That is not to say he isn't talented it is to say that all of the other QBs were asked to carry their teams. I recall Michigan running the ball 32 times in a row and 86% of their plays were running plays.

Great analysis. Thank you. We may have Drew another year after this year but it all depends on where he is projected. If he has an excellent year and projected as one of the top 2 or 3 guys then probably gone. A good but not great year could see him coming back to HV.
